Can my iPhone scan expiration dates?
Yes — RiScan reads the expiry date printed on the packaging with the iPhone camera, so the date is exact rather than estimated from a barcode. It understands 70+ formats, and manual entry is always available.
What's the difference between “best before” and “use by”?
“Best before” is about quality — food is usually still safe after it. “Use by” is about safety — don't eat food past it. Getting reminded before either date means you rarely have to make the judgment call.
How do I read date codes like “28.3.27”?
Short codes can be day-month-year or year-month-day depending on the country. RiScan interprets over 70 formats when it scans, and asks you to confirm ambiguous ones.
How can I reduce food waste at home?
Most household waste is forgotten food. Tracking expiry dates with reminders, shopping from an inventory, and storing food correctly are the highest-impact habits.
How often should I check my emergency food supply?

Is it safe to take expired medicine?
Medicine can lose potency past its date and some kinds shouldn't be used at all — ask a pharmacist when unsure. Better: don't let it expire unnoticed in the first place.
Does makeup expire, and what does “12M” mean?
Yes — most cosmetics expire from the day they're opened. The open-jar “12M” symbol means 12 months after opening. Add the product to RiScan when you open it and you'll be reminded before the clock runs out.
How long does food last in the freezer?
Frozen food stays safe indefinitely at -18°C, but quality fades — ground meat in 3–4 months, cooked meals in 1–3. Photograph items as you freeze them and set an eat-by date, and the mystery bags disappear.
